Shirley Takes First Prize for Watercolor at Eastern
Shore Art League Member Show

n the 2008 Eastern Shore Art League Member Show, Shirley was awarded first place for her watercolor entry of a blue heron on masa paper. The judge, John Bannon, lives near Washington, D.C. has taught art for more than fifty years, and has had over 40 solo exhibits. He was co-founder of The Six Realists Gallery of Baltimore and The Dorchester Art Center in Cambridge, Maryland. For twelve years Bannon was a student, assistant, and protégé of M. Jacques Maroger, former technical director of the Louvre Laboratories, distinguished painter and expert in drawing and painting of old masters. John Bannon graduated from The Maryland Institute with a BFA degree and the Henry Walters prize. In 1960 he earned an MFA in the History and Practice of Painting from the University of Pennsylvania. Shirley feels very honored to have been selected for a first place award.
